A Day in the Country Returns to Winters on Sunday, September 14

July 2025

A Day in the Country Returns to Winters on Sunday, September 14. Tickets Now Available.

Our beloved annual event, A Day in the Country, brings together farmers, food lovers, and conservationists to celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of Yolo County and the land trust’s work to permanently protect local farmland.

This year’s event takes place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Putah Creek Land Co., a beautiful organic walnut orchard and vineyard just outside Winters, California.

“It is a great pleasure to host A Day in the Country,” says Dan Martinez, co-owner of Putah Creek Land Co. “This event is a meaningful opportunity to share the successes of the land trust’s farmland conservation efforts with the broader community.”

2025 marks the first time in over a decade that A Day in the Country returns to Winters, and the setting is particularly special: a portion of the farm is permanently conserved in partnership with Yolo Land Trust, ensuring it remains farmland forever.

“I hope guests can get a sense of the legacy of farming and ranching that has taken place on this land,” Martinez adds. “From Fred and Mariam Coble’s Suffolk sheep to TR Martin’s Angus cattle, and now to our orchards and vineyards taking their turn on the land,  it’s all a part of a living history.”

Originally a small gathering where guests brought their own appetizers, A Day in the Country has grown into our most anticipated fundraising event, an annual sell-out celebration of the abundance grown year-round on Yolo County’s fertile farmland.

“This event is a true celebration of Yolo County agriculture,” says John Currey, Executive Director of YLT. “Guests will enjoy seasonal tastings prepared by the region’s top chefs, featuring fresh ingredients grown by local farms. Local farms, vineyards, and breweries also contribute additional tastings and beverages, making this a truly community-rooted experience.”

This year’s participating restaurants include Kitchen428, Mulvaney’s B&L, Chez Panisse, Preserve, and Savory Café, with more than 15 other restaurants, farms, wineries, and breweries involved in creating an unforgettable afternoon. Live music will be performed by Woodland’s own The Bottom Dwellers, adding to the vibrant, relaxed atmosphere.

“The food and beverage offered at A Day in the Country is truly what sets it apart,” says Melissa Harlan, chair of YLT’s Outreach and Development Committee. “It’s not just a tasting event, it’s a farm-to-fork experience that connects guests directly to the land, farmers, and chefs behind each bite.”

Proceeds from the event supports our mission to conserve farmland in Yolo County. To date, we have partnered with over 60 local farmers to permanently protect more than 13,000 acres of farmland from conversion to non-agricultural use.
